These hardy plants thrive in many parts of the state and once established will grow profusely with very little maintenance required, making them a fantastic choice for both novice and seasoned gardeners.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Plant Rhododendrons<\/h2>\n<p>Follow these simple steps to successfully plant your new rhododendron.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Where to plant:<\/strong> Rhododendrons thrive in moist, rich, well-drained soil that gets full sun to full shade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare the site:<\/strong> dig a hole twice as wide and half as deep as the root ball. Mix the removed soil with a 50\/50 blend of planting mix and your existing soil.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Position the plant:<\/strong> place the root ball in the hole. If wrapped in burlap, loosen it; if in a container, remove it completely. Ensure the top of the root ball sits slightly above ground level.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Backfill and mulch:<\/strong> fill the hole with the soil mix, lightly mounding it around the root ball without covering the stem. Add a layer of mulch to retain moisture and protect the roots.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Water and feed:<\/strong> water thoroughly to settle the soil. Apply a plant starter to reduce transplant shock and encourage healthy root growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>When to Prune Rhododendrons<\/h2>\n<p>Prune your rhododendrons lightly after flowering, typically between May and July.
