Garden Sage

Description

Both a culinary and ornamental delight. Pale purple flowers in early spring. Best used fresh, but can be dried.

Suggestions

Excellent in stuffing and soups. Often used with pork, sausage, other meats, and cheese. Use sage with fruits in vinegars. Use as a garnish in salads, butters, soft cheeses, and ice cubes, or add to fresh bouquets.

Golden Variegated

Description

Like most Garden Sages, Golden Garden Sage is a short-lived perennial that should be replaced every second or third year. Rarely flowers, but has blue blooms when they appear.

Suggestions

Can be substituted in any recipe calling for Sage. Fresh leaves make an attractive garnish for roast chicken or turkey.

Pineapple Sage

Description

A late-season bloomer, profuse bright red tubular flowers attract hummingbirds. Does have a ‘pineappley’ fragrance, but it’s only real use in cooking is as a fresh edible flower. Attracts beneficial insects.

Suggestions

Flowers make an attractive garnish in salads, fruit cocktails, on cakes & cookies, or with vegetables.

Purple Sage

Description

Purple Sage rarely flowers, which helps to keep it at a more moderate height, and from falling apart in the center. It looks great planted with gray leaved plants like Lavenders.

Description

A form of regular culinary garden sage, it can be used in its place in any recipe. The variegation of the leaves makes it a stunning garden plant.
