Celebrating Earth Day

PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

This year, we’re celebrating Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22nd. It is the one day that we highlight the need to be kind to our environment.

Earth Day is all about connecting with nature, protecting our environment, and supporting all our friends who we share Earth with every day. Our friends are all of our animals, insects, etc. that we share living on Earth with every day.

Watching our national news every day we hear about climate change. We hear and read about how our honey bees are on a rapid decline. And more. Never think that you cannot help make a positive change at your home.

POINTS TO STRESS

  1. Plan a garden. Grow your own vegetables. Start your garden with healthy soil. Healthy soil leads to healthy plants. Healthy plants leads to less disease problems.
  2. Grow organically. Use organic products with all plants. Organic cow manure and compost are great products to start using with all plantings. And, this will reduce your need for chemical fertilizers.
  3. Stop using herbicides and pesticides on your lawn and gardens. Pollinators are on the decline because we are over using herbicides and pesticides and we are killing our pollinators and the plants that they use to strive on.
  4. Hand pick any weeds when possible.
  5. Good soil will lead to less need to water.
  6. Recycle all the plastic pots. We have a recycling bin in front of the garden center whereby people can drop off unused and unwanted plastic pots. It is great seeing people recycling and reusing these pots.

Here at The Great Big Greenhouse we pride ourselves with having many environmentally friendly products such as organic fertilizers, organic weed control products, and disease-resistant plants. We believe that gardening can be a powerful tool for climate and environmental education. By promoting gardening and encouraging our younger generations to get involved, we can help people to connect with nature and promote a healthy life style.

BE KIND

These two words have such a powerful meaning. Earth Day is celebrating with one day. But, Earth Day is something all of us need to keep in mind every day with everything we do.

BE KIND, BE HAPPY, AND PLANT A LITTLE HAPPINESS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
