Best Low-Light and Low-Maintenance Houseplants

GREAT PLANT IDEAS FOR A DORM ROOM OR NEW OFFICE

It’s that time of year when some of you have kids moving back into a dorm room at college. You’ll want to add something green to soften or highlight an area. We all know there is not much room inside the living quarters of a dorm room. We also know that a plant may be neglected because of all the extracurricular activities that go on with college life. For this reason, we want to opt for low-light and low-maintenance houseplants. If you are unsure what plants to select, see us and let us help you find that perfect houseplant. At The Great Big Greenhouse, we pride ourselves in our large, diverse selection of tropical houseplants. We think we have the biggest selection of tropical houseplants in the Richmond area.

HERE ARE A FEW HOUSEPLANTS THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR A LOW LIGHT / LOW MAINTENANCE ENVIRONMENT

Keep in mind that we carry different sizes for most of these recommendations to accommodate different situations.

ZZ PLANT

May I suggest one of the best low-light and easy-care plants: the ZZ plant. It can thrive on little to no direct sunlight and even survive in a dark area. It can go a long time between watering.

SNAKE PLANT

A Snake Plant is another low-maintenance houseplant that does well in low-light. Like the ZZ plant, it can go weeks in between being watering. More people kill a Snake Plant with over watering.

POTHOS

Pothos plants are great plants to sit on top of a table or book case. They make great hanging basket as well because of their growing habit of creating long dangling stems.

SPIDER PLANTS

Spider plants come green leaf or variegated leaf and will eventually develop shoots of small baby plants that are easy to propagate. They can easily be grown in pots or as a hanging basket.

DRACAENA

Dracaena plants, especially the Janet Craig, I consider a top five plant selection for a low-light and low-maintenance plant for a dorm room or an office space. Easy care! You can go a long time in between watering.

There you have it—my top five selections of low-light and low-maintenance houseplants to do well in a dorm room or an office space. Don’t forget—to go along with your selected plant you will want a saucer to sit under the pot. You can select a decorative plant container that will come in all different colors that will help compliment the décor.

HAVE A LITTLE HAPPINESS WITH “INDOOR TROPICAL” PLANTS!!!!!!!!!
