Bee My Valentine
Saturday, February 10th from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm
James River Master Naturalists are teaming up with the Xerces Society for BEE MY VALENTINE, an educational outreach on the importance of our native bees at the Great Big Greenhouse & Meadow Farms Nurseries. While many people think of the European honeybee when they hear “Save the Bees,” Virginia has at least 400 species of native bees, many of which are struggling due to reduced habitat and widespread pesticide use. Learn about the hard work performed by the solitary moms of the bee world, the difference between bees and wasps, why bees are the most effective pollinators, which bees can sting and which cannot, and more. Create a friendly bee Valentine at the craft table and make a Valentine’s Day promise to be a friend to this critical but overlooked group of super pollinators!
