Fish and Pond Wildlife
|
Koi and goldfish are colorful, low care pets. The relatively mild Winters we experience in the D.C. and surrounding areas allow fish to remain in the pond as long as it is 18 inches or greater in depth. In most cases, if the waterfall or streambed pump remains running, the pond will not freeze.
Ponds also attract Frogs, Dragonflies, and Birds will splash around in the shallow areas of a pond, stream, or waterfall. Ponds also can attract a varitey of other wildlife including geese, ducks, groundhogs, cats, dogs, and predators such as herons and racoons who might feed on your fish. There are a variety of products sold to protect your fish, and we can design a pond with deep areas and steep sides if we know that there is a potential problem.
