John Sargeant

Since originally joining Meadows Farms in 1992, I have worked my way through the ranks.  Starting out as an hourly laborer and ending up as a General Manager, I have observed the business from many different perspectives.  I have extensive experience with the installation of numerous plants indigenous to this region.  This gives me firsthand knowledge of what will thrive in the specific landscape of your home.  With my years of designing, I have established a strong following of clients that return time and again to take advantage of my knowledge, input and patience.  Committed to excellence in service, I am the ideal candidate to assist in designing a landscape that fits your individual desires and needs. 

With over 21 years in the business my career started out of high school, then led to studies at Frostburg University. I have years of studies and expertise in the Horticulture/Environmental Science field. I continued my education at Longwood Gardens taking hundreds of hours in classes ranging from natives trees and woody plants to aquatics, herbaceous perennials to xerioscape.  Additionally, I was an assistant educator of courses at Longwood Gardens, allowing me to share my broad knowledge in an educational capacity.  As a volunteer at Longwood Gardens during 1998 and 1999 I had the opportunity to work with some of the leading horticulturists in the country.  Specializing in water gardens, I have increased my knowledge base by participating in extreme pond builds ,continuing education seminars as well as built many of my own and constantly expanding and maintaining them. 

Currently a Member of the Maryland Nursery and Landscape Association as well as a Certified Virginia Nurseryman; I’m also very active with the Northern Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association keeping up with the ever changing techniques laws and safety codes required by varying counties and states.   

I am committed to staying on the cutting edge of the Horticulture business.  My ability and desire to create a beautiful landscape, and also educate the consumer, is what sets me apart from the rest.  I have a genuine interest and passion for helping develop custom hardscapes and landscapes creating tranquil garden oasis and functional spaces. I’m available from creation to completion and offer maintenance as well.
